Dianetics Bursts on the Scene

Returning to Los Angeles, Mr. Hubbard continued lecturing and instructing students. When these students returned to their hometowns to audit friends, family members and associates, the word continued to spread.

Having spent the spring of 1951 in pre-communist Havana, Cuba, where relative anonymity afforded him the opportunity to complete his second major work on Dianetics, Science of Survival, Mr. Hubbard accepted an offer to pursue his research and instruction at a newly opened Dianetics Foundation in Wichita, Kansas.

Here Mr. Hubbard formed the first organization that he himself actually administered, the Hubbard College. This organization trained auditors under his personal supervision, and only when those auditors could competently demonstrate auditing skills and results were they certified.

As news of Mr. Hubbard’s return to the United States circulated, scores of students appeared, so that by June 1951 the First Annual Conference of Hubbard Dianetics Auditors brought leading auditors from around the nation to Wichita. Thereafter, Mr. Hubbard continued to lecture and oversee auditor training, while delivering a series of evening talks to the Wichita Chamber of Commerce on how his discoveries might be employed to expand their community.
